MTN to suspend Momo services for 6hrs on August 17

MTN Ghana has announced a temporary suspension of its Mobile Money (MoMo) services scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. This six-hour nationwide service interruption is part of a critical system upgrade aimed at enhancing the overall performance, security, and reliability of the MoMo platform.

According to Mobile Money Limited, the upgrade will introduce improvements that ensure faster transaction processing, stronger fraud prevention mechanisms, and a more robust infrastructure to support future innovations in digital finance. During the upgrade window, all MoMo-related services will be unavailable. This includes deposits, withdrawals, transfers, merchant payments, bill settlements, and airtime purchases. Customers are advised to complete any urgent transactions before midnight on August 16 to avoid disruptions.

Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, expressed appreciation for customers’ patience and understanding, stating, “This upgrade is to improve our services to you. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”

MTN Ghana assures users that their accounts and funds will remain secure throughout the process, and services will resume immediately after the upgrade window closes. No action is required from customers, and there will be no changes to account details or balances.

This move reflects MTN’s ongoing commitment to delivering reliable and secure mobile financial services to millions of Ghanaians. As digital transactions continue to grow in popularity, such upgrades are essential to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the MoMo ecosystem.
