Among the deceased are Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and three crew members of the Ghana Armed Forces. These officials were traveling to launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP)—a national initiative aimed at promoting sustainable mining and vocational empowerment.
In a solemn press briefing, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the incident and announced that national flags will fly at half-mast to honor the fallen.
