Dr. Bawumia Calls for State Funeral for Late Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba

Following the passing of iconic highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has publicly advocated for a state funeral to honor his extraordinary contributions to Ghana’s music and cultural heritage.

In a solemn visit to the late musician’s family, Dr. Bawumia described Lumba as a “musical giant” who uplifted national identity through melody and lyrical depth. With over three decades of musical influence, Daddy Lumba’s catalogue of more than 30 albums resonated with millions, cutting across age groups, regions, and social classes. His songs, often blending love, introspection, and social commentary, helped shape the very fabric of Ghanaian highlife music.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that even if the government does not formally confer a state funeral, the immense public grief already reflects the deep respect and admiration Ghanaians feel for Lumba’s life and legacy. He urged citizens and institutions alike to celebrate the artist in a manner befitting his cultural stature.

Daddy Lumba’s passing has sparked widespread tributes nationwide, with fans, fellow artists, and media houses praising his role as a pioneer and beacon in Ghana’s creative industry.
