Sam George Puts DStv on Notice: Ghana Deserves Better!

In a bold move that’s got social media buzzing and consumers cheering, Ghana’s Communication Minister, Sam George, has called out DStv Ghana over what he describes as blatant pricing exploitation.

The Breakdown According to George, Ghanaians are currently shelling out GHS 865 ($83) for DStv Premium, while Nigerians enjoy the same bouquet for $29. “It’s plain stealing,” he declared, urging MultiChoice (DStv’s parent company) to slash prices or risk losing their broadcast licence by August 7.

Minister Sam George didn’t hold back:

“Enough of the mistreatment of the Ghanaian consumer. What is good for Nigerians and Liberians is good for Ghanaians.”

He noted that despite the cedi appreciating, DStv continued to charge exorbitant rates, dismissing the currency gains as “a fluke.”

Across Borders: Unequal Pricing George’s comparison spans multiple African countries—Liberia, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, and South Africa—all of which reportedly enjoy significantly more affordable rates.

What’s Next? If DStv fails to adjust its pricing, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has been directed to suspend their licence. This sets the stage for what could be a landmark consumer rights battle in Ghana’s broadcasting industry.
